CDC Issues Call for Papers on Model Communities (08/19/08) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its Terrorism Injuries: Information Dissemination and Exchange (TIIDE) Project, is examining the relationship between the emergency care community and public health in relation to preparedness for mass casualty incidents. The emergency care community is composed of emergency medical services, emergency departments, trauma centers, and acute care hospitals. The CDC TIIDE Project is seeking examples of “model communities” in which the relationship between the emergency care community and public health is well-established and operationally functional in terms of its capacity to respond to events that might produce large numbers of injuries. NFPA Issues Call for Papers (08/11/08) Do you have a story, case study or best practice that relates to or demonstrates progress in the security, electrical, or building and life safety industries? NFPA welcomes you to share your experience and expertise at the 2009 NFPA Conference & Expo (formerly known as the World Safety Conference & Exposition) in Chicago, June 8-11, 2009.  NFPA is looking for education topic submissions in the following areas: Building & Life Safety; Codes & Standards; Detection & Suppression; Disaster Preparedness/ Business Continuity; Fire & Emergency Response; Fire Protection Engineering; Industrial Fire Safety and Security; Premises Security; Electrical Safety; Public Education; and Research. Proposals are due by Friday, September 19, 2008. Submit your proposal online through the NFPA Conference & Expo website. Call for Presentations: Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference (07/14/08) deadline Sept. 15, 2008 - A call for presentations has been issued for the 2009 Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference, set for Apr. 14-15, 2009 in Tacoma, Washington. This regional conference is the largest EM conference in the Pacific Northwest, bringing together non-profit organizations, public agencies, business and industry, military, healthcare, and schools to explore emergency management issues, principles and practices. The Conference Committee is soliciting presentations regarding the on-going partnerships necessary to support successful emergency preparedness activities in all areas. The Conference Steering Committee is particularly interested in presentations focused on business disaster preparedness and on translating disaster-related research into information useful to practitioners. conference details and call for abstracts

 

Call for Papers: International Symposium on Human Behavior in Fire (07/07/08) The International Symposium on Human Behaviour in Fire is unique in that it is the recognized platform to discuss and debate current human behavior in fire issues, review strategies and scan the horizon for emerging trends and long term developments. The theme for the 4th Symposium, set for July 13-15, 2008 at Robinson College, Cambridge, is "Fire Safety – Putting People First." In putting people first, the Program Committee wishes to encourage new voices in the field, interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary activities and global participation. Participants are invited to focus on current serious issues, areas of contention, advances in knowledge and future developments in the field of human behaviour in fire and related fields. In so doing the symposium will: attempt to address the human behaviour data deficit;• seek new insights in the field and related fields; promote innovation through fresh ideas; and encourage translation of research into practice.
